Committee Elections Process
Dancesport elections take place at the end of the beginners lesson in week 9 of the spring term. All positions are voted upon by members of the society and any member of the society can run for any position on the committee. We recently voted to expand our committee, giving people more opportunity than ever to get involved in the workings of dancesport and have a hand in making decisions and helping to run the society.
How the voting takes place
At the end of the beginners lesson, people who wish to run for president are asked to step forward, and each makes a quick speech about their motives. Candidates then exit the room while a vote is taken place (voting takes place by everyone in the room closing their eyes and raising their hand to vote for specific candidates, or to vote RON (re-open nominations). The candidates are brought back into the room and the result is announced. We then continue in the same manner for all other positions, in order of their rank of basic importance within the committee.
A member cannot hold more than one position on the committee, but is permitted to run for another position if they fail to win a previous vote. (for example if someone runs unsuccessfully for president they are able to then run for vice, treasurer, secretary etc.)
If you'd like more information about positions on the committee you can have a look at the descriptions of each of the roles, and if you'd like anymore information about any of the roles, feel free to get in contact with us either by email or on this website's forum.
Good luck to all candidates!
